Modern and Sustainable Home Office Desk

Josh Ribbeck, the designer of the Mukava Executive Desk, was inspired to create a sustainable and modern executive desk that could easily fit through small doors and spaces without the need for equipment. He also wanted to incorporate plenty of usable storage for tools and paperwork. By using these principles, Ribbeck designed a desk that is not only visually appealing but also highly functional.

One of the standout features of the Mukava Executive Desk is its assembly process. Unlike traditional desks that rely on metal fasteners, this desk uses its own weight and a slat bracing system to hold it together. This unique construction method allows for easy disassembly, movement, and reassembly within seconds. The desk can fit through 18" wide spaces, making it ideal for small offices or residential spaces.

The desk is meticulously handcrafted using traditional mortise and tenon joinery techniques. Solid walnut is used for the body of the desk, while curly maple is used for the drawer boxes. Each drawer box features dovetail joinery, adding to the desk's elegant look. The desk is finished with sustainable water-based techniques, giving it an heirloom quality.

With dimensions of 1981mm in length, 812mm in width, and 762mm in height, the Mukava Executive Desk provides ample workspace while maintaining a compact footprint. It is available in eight different shades, allowing for customization to suit any interior design style. Despite its weight of 136kg, the desk is designed to be easily movable, thanks to its detachable writing surface.

The Mukava Executive Desk was designed and built in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ribbeck started the design process in early 2016 and completed the final production-ready model in September 2016. Throughout the design process, Ribbeck focused on finding the perfect proportions to maximize drawer space and create a desk that seamlessly blends modern and traditional design elements.

The Mukava Executive Desk has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
